With our wedding just one day away, white is on my mind. Particularly a little, white dress I have to squeeze myself into tomorrow. Sucking in aside, wouldn’t it be nice to get ready in a beautiful, bright, white bathroom? I can’t think of a better place to spend the morning of the “big day.”
Of course, not everyone would feel that way. When it comes to all-white, I find people either love it or hate it. Those who love it find it clean, airy and fresh. Those who hate it feel it’s sterile, cold and boring.
What do you think? Are all-white bathrooms your idea of perfection or a little too stark for your tastes?
On a side note, how amazing would it be to have one of those huge, walk-in showers?
While I may not be the biggest fan of fall, there’s one thing I do love about it: the chunky, cozy, make-you-want-to-cuddle throws. I’ve been on the search for a super soft version for our new place, and of course, the ones I like most come with a price tag as hefty as their weave. So I’ve added some good secondary options below to keep you toasty on all those chilly autumn nights.
3. The alpaca throws — available in both plaids and solids — from Lands Down Under are a nice switch-up from the traditional sweater style fall throws.
5. The quintessential fall blanket, Pendleton’s plaid alpaca throw promises to keep you warmer than wool. For other plaid options, try Crate & Barrel’s mateo plaid alpaca throw, Pfeifer Studio’s cuddle blanket or one of Pendleton’s wool throws.
6. Gump’s ziggy throw — on sale — gives fall’s quintessential rustic look a graphic punch. For a simple striped version try Garnet Hill’s Lorenzo Wool Throw.
With a new husband and a new home drifting closer on the horizon, I figured it was high time for a new mattress. Only problem: Which one?
Wandering through the world of mattresses is like navigating through troubled water. Everywhere you dock, you hear another cautionary tale. Cheap mattresses sag. Spring mattresses are lumpy. Memory foam mattresses are hot. But the most worrisome of all: a large number of all types of mattresses contain harmful chemicals.
You’ve probably smelled them. I know I have. The last mattress I got, a Tempurpedic, reeked for weeks. Luckily, it was summer. So we opened the windows and let the smell float to the heavens not thinking much of it.
Turns out, we should have. The fumes were toxic VOCs, which by now you’ve probably heard all about. VOCs (volatile organic compounds) cause a number of harmful health problems including cancer. So they’re not particularly something you want to sleep on.
While the first signs of fall have most people giddy with glee, I go into mourning. Not because I don’t like fall, but because I truly love summer. The blue of the sky. The green of the trees. The warmth of the water. The flowers. The fruits. The fantastic weather.
To me, fall signifies the end of the bounty of summer, and most importantly, paddle boarding. I would spend all day, every day on the water if possible.
So when the first week of September hits, I need a little help falling for fall. Okay. A lot of help, and in case you’re like me, here’s a collection of what makes fall so spectacular to help ease the pain of summer’s end.
What about you? Do you welcome fall with open arms or wish it would hold off a little longer?
Part glam and part bohemian chic, Moroccan wedding blankets, traditionally referred to as handiras, have slowly gained popularity over the last handful of years thanks largely to their neutral color — which makes them fit for any room — and characteristic sparkle — which makes them ultra unique.
So unique, the first time I saw them I was immediately smitten. They were fun and fresh with a touch of exotic. But it wasn’t until I got engaged that my interest truly piqued.
You see, my engagement ring has what could be considered a slight Moroccan flair. So I took it as a sign that a Moroccan wedding blanket would make the perfect wedding present to ourselves. Well, let’s be honest, to myself.
As fate would have it, a few weeks ago Danielle Donker, a Dutch woman living in Morocco who sells beautiful Moroccan wedding blankets among other items, contacted me about a previous post. Her e-mail was unbelievably kind, and I took it as further confirmation that a Moroccan wedding blanket was indeed in our future.
